Louisiana's education system is drastically changing to meet the demands of the 21st century. To succeed in the future workplace, children must have more than basic skills. They must be able to solve difficult problems, use the latest technology, and communicate ideas effectively. Louisiana is responding by teaching higher level skills, giving tougher tests, ending social promotion and holding schools responsible for student achievement. Schools can't do it
alone. Parents are just as important as teachers in preparing children for
