Tougher Testing

Louisiana's education system is drastically changing to meet the demands of the 21st century.  To succeed in the future workplace, children must have more than basic skills.  They must be able to solve difficult problems, use the latest technology, and communicate ideas effectively.

Louisiana is responding by teaching higher level skills, giving tougher tests, ending social promotion and holding schools responsible for student achievement.

Schools can't do it alone.  Parents are just as important as teachers in preparing children for these new challenges.

Tougher Standards

The new tougher standards will give Louisiana students the basic skills, as well as the knowledge and concepts they need to succeed in the 21st century.

Louisiana's new standards have students:
bulletCommunicating their knowledge, in speech and in writing
bulletApplying what they have learned to solve real-world problems
bulletUsing computers, and other sources of information in their lessons
bulletSolving problems that involve an understanding of more than one subject, such as math, science, social studies and language arts
bulletWorking with others in a respectful and productive manner.
